The mother of a Cambridge University student has advertised on Gumtree for a "talkative blonde girl" to be her son's date at a prestigious ball.

The family were compelled to resort to what some may regard as desperate measures due to the boy's studying commitments.

The advert posted last Friday, and still accepting responses from eligible young ladies, said the unnamed boy was "fully occupied by school works".

There are no further details on the boy's studies, interests or physical appearance in the advert, which appears in the 'Jobs' section of the website.

However, his mother Margot has several preferences for his date, calling for girls who are "blonde, talkative, age 19-22 and with a honest and sincere attitude toward this opportunity".

For the suitable candidate, she also promises that the mother and son will take care of "all the expenses" for the evening.
