Tom Cruise stepped out in front of a bus as he filmed scenes for the forthcoming Mission: Impossible 5 film in Central London.

The actor attempted to cross the road without looking in both directions, forcing the bus driver to sound his horn.

With no advanced warning of Cruise's appearance or road closures in place, members of the public appeared oblivious to the 52-year-old's presence as he strolled casually around Piccadilly Circus.

Cruise is set to reprise his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt in the action thriller, due to be released in December 2015.

Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie will direct Cruise in the latest installment, which is also set to star Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson.

The action franchise has reportedly earned over $2 billion at the worldwide box office since the first film was released in 1996.
