Ted Robbins 'stable' after collapsing on stage during Phoenix Nights Live

Actor Ted Robbins is in a stable condition after he collapsed on stage during the opening night of Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights live show, forcing its cancellation.

The show, at Manchester's Phones4U Arena, was being staged in support of Comic Relief and boasted the full original cast line-up. It had been due to run for two nights but was extended to 15 to meet high demand.

Robbins - who plays Den Perry - was performing a solo part of the show when he appeared to he clutched his chest, stumbled and fell to the ground, Manchester Evening News reported.

The curtain was dropped immediately and, as the audience waited to see whether it was part of the show, one of his co-stars informed them the show was over for the evening.

The Manchester Arena put out an official statement shortly afterwards stating:

Ted Robbins collapsed during the performance of Phoenix Nights Live this evening at Manchester Arena.

He's been taken by ambulance to hospital and is in a stable condition.
