They had a series of hit singles including Heart of Glass, Call Me and Atomic.
The band broke up between in 1983 before reuniting in 1997, during which time blonde-haired Debbie pursued a solo singing career.
She continues to perform live, taking to the stage last week for a charity event in New York’s Central Park.
Debbie was born in Florida in 1945 and adopted by Richard and Catherine Harry when she was three months old.
She began her music career in the late 1960s as a backing singer before becoming part of a trio called The Stilettoes in 1974. Stein, who she later became romantically involved with, joined the band shortly after.
Debbie and Stein formed Angel and the Snake and then Blondie, named after her hair.
Her film roles included Union City in 1980 and Videodrome in 1983.
