Bali flights cancelled after Java volcano eruption

International airlines have cancelled flights to Bali after a volcanic eruption on Indonesia's main island of Java.

Mount Raung is about 93 miles (150km) from Bali's international airport, and has been blasting ash and debris 12,460ft (3,800 metres) into the air for days.

Authorities have closed five Indonesian airports due to the risks posed by volcanic ash.

Transport Ministry spokesman Julius Adravida Barata said the ministry issued a notice late yesterday for all airlines to avoid routes near the mountain.
