Ofcom has launched a new online tool to let consumers check the mobile network coverage they should be getting in their location.

The interactive map consolidates data gathered from the four biggest operators, O2, Vodafone, EE and Three for both 4G and 3G coverage.

The map allows users to search by postcode or area and filter by network provider. The results are colour coded with green meaning good signal strength and red indicating areas with no network coverage.

Steve Unger, Ofcom’s Chief Technology Officer, said: “Access to reliable mobile phone coverage used to be a ‘nice to have’. Now it’s essential to many people’s lives.

“We believe our map is the most comprehensive tool available to consumers and businesses to check mobile coverage. We’re encouraging people to feed back after using the map, so we can continue to improve its accuracy.”
