The BBC has denied rumours they are axing talent show The Voice, saying they are "in negotiations about its future".

There were conflicting reports over the future of the talent show, with some sources suggesting it was facing the chop and The Mirror claiming a new three-year contract had been agreed.

When asked to clarify the reports, a BBC spokesperson told ITV News:

It is incorrect to say the BBC has axed The Voice and we are in negotiations about its future.

The show has returned with an all-new panel featuring Paloma Faith, Will.i.am, Boy George and Ricky Wilson, after former coach Rita Ora moved to ITV's The X Factor and Tom Jones was axed.

The BBC has previously launched a defence of popular programming like The Voice and The Great British Bake Off, saying that licence fee payers expect the BBC to "deliver entertainment".
