A woman and an 11-year-old boy who were hit by a car were "deliberately targeted", police have said.

West Midlands Police said it was "only by chance" that they were not dealing with a murder inquiry after a silver Vauxhall Vectra struck the boy and a 26-year-old woman in Wolverhampton.

Both victims were hit as they walked along Tennyson Road at about 6.45pm on Wednesday 2 December.

The pair were treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the inquiry and police have appealed for witnesses
