Woman jailed for life for murder after putting baby daughter in microwave

A woman has been jailed for killing her baby daughter after she put her in a microwave.

Ka Yang was convicted of first degree murder for putting her six-week old daughter in the microwave for up to five minutes at her family's home in Sacramento, California, in 2011.

Prosecutors say the child had fatal thermal injuries and suffered burns on 60 percent of her body.

Yang claimed she had been in the middle of an epileptic seizure and did not know what she was doing at the time.

She told investigators she blacked out and awoke to find the baby injured next to a space heater.

The court heard she has a history of seizures, but paramedics say she wasn't disoriented when they arrived.

Jurors convicted her of first-degree murder in November.

On Friday a Sacramento County Superior Court judge sentenced the 34-year-old to 26 years to life in prison
