A young British backpacker, injured in a moped crash in Thailand, is out of immediate danger after an appeal for blood donors was shared thousands of times.
Lucy Hill, 21, from Bury, Greater Manchester, was seriously wounded when her moped collided with a car in Chiang Mai on Saturday.
Her friends launched an online appeal for donations of A negative blood - which fewer than 1% of Thai people have.
The appeal was shared more than 40,000 times within six hours and queues of people reportedly turned up at the hospital on Monday to offer their blood.
Miss Hill's friend, Darren Burns, said she had received a blood transfusion and was now "out of immediate danger".
I have received endless amounts of thank u’s through facebook and via text when really stuff like this doesn’t need a thank you.
Miss Hill's mother Alison is at the bedside of her daughter, who began her trip to Thailand on January 3.
