Brentford defender James Tarkowski has issued a statement explaining why he missed the club's match against Burnley.

The centre-back was absent from the London's club matchday squad after telling staff he didn't feel he would be able to play to the best of his ability.

Tarkowski, 23, explained the reasons behind his decision stem from his mother's illness. The defender has been looking to secure a move back to the north of the country to be closer to his mother, including being linked with Burnley.
