A 92-year-old man on a mobility scooter had to be rescued by police after taking a wrong turn and ending up on a dual carriageway.

The pensioner was spotted by a passing motorist on the 70mph-limit road near Crawley, West Sussex and was found to be in a "very confused" state.

The motorist pulled over to help the man who was eventually rescued by local police after the alarm was raised at midday.

He was very confused and really didn't know where he was.

We sat him in the back of our police car and waited for a colleague in a van to collect the mobility scooter and then we delivered scooter and driver back home to his warden-assisted accommodation in Crawley.

The unnamed OAP is now recovering from his ordeal at home.
