Chocolate lovers who have overindulged and scoffed too many Easter eggs this year are being urged to stay away from busy A&E departments and "rest at home" instead.

The plea came as emergency departments faced what is traditionally one of the busiest weekend's of the year and one overstretched hospital was driven to publicly pleading with patients with "stomach aches caused by over-indulgence" to "keep A&E free for emergencies"

Writing on Facebook South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said "believe it or not, we do have people coming into A&E with stomach aches caused by over-indulgence".

Before going on to state those who've "had one too many Easter eggs and a big Sunday dinner" were likely to feel better "after a rest at home and drinking plenty of water".
