At least one person was reportedly killed and three others injured as a four-storey apartment block partially collapsed in Tenerife.

It was confirmed by local media that the body of a woman aged around 70 was pulled from the rubble by emergency services.

An estimated eight people were trapped in the rubble when the building, in Los Cristianos village, came down at around 9.30am. It was unclear how many of them had been rescued, with conflicting reports from local sources.

According to local media, a 57-year-old woman was seriously hurt in the collapse, while a man suffered minor injuries.

A second woman was also reportedly treated for an anxiety attack.

Construction work had been taking place on the ground floor of the building to convert the former bank into a new business, reports claim - but this was suspended two weeks ago after major cracks were found in the building.

An eyewitness told a local radio station that he heard a "loud bang" as the building came down, with others reporting a smell of gas.

Video posted to social media from the scene showed dust and smoke filling the streets, as people ran towards the building.

Other buildings nearby appear intact, though storefronts immediately adjacent appear to have been affected.

Images from the scene compared to those from Google Maps show an Asian supermarket covered in rubble, with its sign almost completely torn down.
