Two people have died in a house fire in Lincolnshire, police have confirmed.

The blaze took place shortly after midnight on Sunday in the market town of Spalding. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service sent six appliances to tackle the blaze. A spokesperson for the service said that firefighters would remain at the scene for "some time".

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: "Sadly, we can confirm that there have been two fatalities.

"We are not in a position to provide any further details about the deceased at this stage and the cause of the fire is not yet known.

"A joint fire service and police investigation is under way."
