Chris Mitchell: Scottish footballer dies suddenly aged 27

A former Scottish footballer has died suddenly aged 27.

Chris Mitchell, who played for Falkirk, Clyde and Queen of the South, passed away on Friday.

His cause of death is still unknown.

Mitchell left Clyde and retired from football in January for a new full-time job.

A minute's silence will be held for Mitchell before Clyde's League One play-off first leg against Queen's Park on Tuesday.

Clyde FC said manager Barry Ferguson, staff and players were "still coming to terms with the loss."

Falkirk, where Mitchell came through the ranks before leaving for Bradford City, were among the clubs to pay tribute to the defender.
