A man has been sent to jail for failing to keep his home tidy, breaching an order imposed by a judge last year.

A civil court heard David Armstrong, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, had accumulated excessive belongings or rubbish that could cause a health and safety or fire risk.

He was jailed for 28 days at Mansfield County Court on Friday.

Judge David Potts said Mr Armstrong had also admitted breaching an order barring him from having visitors in the early hours.

Ashfield District Council said Mr Armstrong had breached an injunction imposed in November which ordered him to ensure that "the property is maintained in a clean and tidy condition free from excessive accumulation of belongings or rubbish that could cause a health and safety or fire risk" and barred visitors between 9.30pm and 10pm.
