A moving report on domestic abuse in South Africa for ITV's On Assignment programme has won a prestigious award.

‘Vicky’s Story’ told the story of a mother who ran a successful B&B in the township of Khayelitsha, bringing visitors from around the world to one of the toughest places in South Africa. A victim of her own success, in 2015 Vicky Ntozini's husband stabbed her to death at the family home.

The report includes interviews with Ms Ntozini in the year before her death, interviews with her children who recount the attack, and looks at the issue of domestic abuse in South Africa.

The One World Media Awards recognise outstanding coverage of developing countries and the role of journalists in increasing understanding of equality and justice. ITV News Africa Correspondent John Ray’s report won in the ‘Women’s Rights in Africa’ category.
