Halal butchers targeted in 'petrol bomb' attack

A halal butchers has been targeted in a 'petrol bomb' attack.

Police said they were "keeping an open mind" as to the motive after a man walked in and threw a lit bottle of "accelerant" on Monday.

It hit a male staff member bruising him before setting fire to the Kashmir Meat and Poultry store in Wednesbury Road in Walsall.

Police now want to trace a man, described as white, 6ft tall, and wearing a blue jacket, in connection with the incident.

CCTV footage is being studied as part of the investigation, and local beat officers are set to carry out "reassurance patrols".

Detective Inspector Greg Evans, of West Midlands Police, said: "The man was not seriously injured, but it could have been much more serious.

"I am appealing for anyone with information or anyone who saw what happened to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
