Ricky Gervais will be honoured by Bafta Los Angeles with an award named after Charlie Chaplin.

The Office star is set to receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for excellence at a ceremony in California on October.

Gervais, 55, who starred in Hollywood films Ghost Town and Muppets Most Wanted, has already won seven BAFTA awards throughout his career.

Previous winners of the Bafta Los Angeles include US comedienne Amy Schumer, Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Britain's Sacha Baron Cohen.

Ricky Gervais is a comic genius. He is provocative, edgy, and his observations on life have brought us some of the best comedy moments ever in television and film.

He crosses the pond with consummate ease, continues to push the comedic boundaries, and we're looking forward to raising a glass to his incomparable talents at the Britannia Awards.
