Two people were killed in a hit-and-run in a seaside town on Friday night after a driver crashed into parked cars.

A man fled the scene of the four vehicle collision in Eastbourne, but has since been arrested.

Sussex Police said the collision took place at the junction of South Cliff and King Edward's Parade in Eastbourne at 9.30pm.

A police spokesman said: "Three people were involved in the collision and sadly two people from the same vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the other vehicle decamped from the scene and was later arrested. He is currently assisting police with their inquiries."

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to call 101 quoting Operation Harfield.
