Helicopter proposal after farmers mow 'will you marry me'

A romantic hopeful proposed to his girlfriend by flying her over a field where a farmer had mowed the words "will you marry me".

Shyam Thakrar, known as Sam, needed five months to plan the proposal - which included the hire of a helicopter.

In the meantime, Mr Thakrar, 27, convinced farmers 300 miles from the couple's home to mow the words "Dear Sara, Will you marry me?" in giant letters into their field.

The farmers in Mindrum, Northumberland, even required walkie talkies to co-ordinate the task.

Mr Thakrar, from Northwood, west London, then flew his 24-year-old partner to Newcastle.

There he suggested they use a helicopter experience voucher he had on 21 August, where Mr Thakrar popped the question - to which his girlfriend answered yes.
