A schoolboy has escaped the clutches of a stranger who grabbed him as he waited to be collected from school.
The nine-year-old boy kicked the unknown man who had pounced from behind and put his arms around him.
The child managed to get away but was left shaken by the incident, which happened near Lyndhurst Junior School in Portsmouth.
The school sent parents a text message notifying them of the incident, which occurred on September 15.
The boy returned to school on Monday and there was a special assembly warning pupils about what happened.
A Hampshire police spokesman said the man was not known to the boy.
The man is described as white, about 5ft 9in, quite muscular with a skinny face, grey beard and messy grey hair in a bob style.
He was wearing a light grey T-shirt with an emblem, trousers, work boots and a light brown flat cap and also had rings on his left hand and spots on his forehead.
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
