A sheep farmer has painted his entire flock luminous orange in a bid to deter thieves from stealing them.

Over the past four years Pip Simpson has had hundreds of sheep stolen from his farm in Cumbria, leading him to take this unusual action.

The 50-year-old farmer told the BBC he hopes that whoever is stealing his flock will be unable to hide the sheep any longer.

It was a very bright colour that nobody else had done, so it was just a case of trying to be different.

We have got a massive problem with theft and over the last few years we've had onward of 300 pinched so we had to try and stop that.

The 'Umpa Loompa' sheep have been drawing in tourists hoping to catch a glimpse of the colourful flock that will remain orange until shearing next summer.
