Soldier killed at RAF Tain named by Ministry of Defence

A serviceman who was shot dead during a training exercise in the Scottish highlands has been named by the Ministry of Defence.

Lance Corporal Joe Spencer from 3rd Battalion The Rifles died on Tuesday following an incident during an exercise at RAF Tain weapons range near Inverness.

Around 30 detectives are investigating his death.

Defence Minister Mark Lancaster said: "My thoughts are with Joe's family, friends and colleagues at this terrible time.

"We are co-operating with the police investigation and looking into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident."
