Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez has thanked fans for their support after he was attacked in Blackpool.

It's believed the dancer had two of his teeth knocked out when he was beaten up by a gang of youths at the seaside resort, just hours after taking part in Saturday's live show.

The 26-year-old, who is reportedly undergoing dental surgery following the attack, used his Twitter and Instagram accounts to thank the fans and added that he was feeling better.

He was reportedly walking to The Flamingo nightclub with fellow dancers Aljaz Skorjanec and Neil Jones when the assault took place.

The Strictly star was en-route to The Flamingo to celebrate with friends after an incredible performance in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Unfortunately, Gorka was attacked whilst making his way through the town centre and sadly didn't reach our venue.

We would like to send Gorka our good wishes for a speedy recovery.

But, despite the incident being widely reported in the media, local police said it has not been reported to them.

Lancashire Police said they have contacted the BBC to "try to establish details" of the incident.
