A man who was shot by police following reports he was running around with an axe has died.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission confirmed that the 31-year-old, who was left in a critical condition after the shooting in Hull, had succumbed to his injuries.
Armed police were initially deployed around 9.20am after reports of concerns for the safety of the public when the man was seen wielding the weapon.
Witnesses describing hearing loud shots and then saw a man lying on the floor, surrounded by police, with "blood gushing out of him".
The man has so far not been named.
An investigation by the IPCC has been launched.
IPCC associate commissioner Tom Milsom said: "Our thoughts are with the man's friends and family, and all those affected at this very difficult time".
