Outgoing US Vice President Joe Biden has hinted he may bid for the presidency in 2020.
Mr Biden, who will be 78 by then, was asked by reporters on Monday evening whether he was going to run.
"Yeah I am," he responded. "I am going to run."
When asked to confirm whether he was joking or not, Mr Biden paused briefly before saying: "I’m not committing not to run. I’m not committed to anything.
"I learned a long time ago, fate has a strange way of intervening.”
There was speculation that Mr Biden might challenge Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination last year.
However, he eventually said he would not enter the race as the grieving process following his son Beau's death had "closed the window" of mounting a campaign.
He has twice previously bid for the presidency - in 1988 and 2008 - but dropped out early both times.
Were he to run, he would be the oldest ever presidential candidate.
