Emergency services perform open-heart surgery at scene of car crash

An emergency services team performed open-heart surgery on a woman at the scene of a car crash.

Great North Air Ambulance Service had rushed to a collision between two vehicles on a slip road of the A19 near Seaham, County Durham, on Monday.

There a doctor-led trauma team performed the open-heart surgery on a 50-year-old woman.

Sadly despite the medical team's best efforts, she died later in hospital.
