In a show of solidarity the defence secretary has joined British troops in Norway to take a dip in the country's icy waters.
A soaked but smiling Gavin Williamson was pictured climbing out of the ice as he was surrounded by marines.
Over the weekend Mr Williamson was accused of engaging in "gunboat diplomacy" after Philip Hammond's trip to China was cancelled.
Mr Hammond's trip was pulled after the defence secretary threatened to deploy a warship in the Pacific.
The Chancellor was expected to meet Chinese vice premier Hu Chunhua, but Treasury sources said the trip was never confirmed.
