Former Norwich High School pupil Anna Bentley said she was pleased to have reached the quarter finals in the women's team foil fencing competition.

And the 31-year-old said it had been a personal best to reach the latter stages of the Olympic competition.

It’s a personal best to get to the top eight, it was our main goal coming here and we’re really happy about doing that.

“We don’t really match up with Italy, it’s like trying to beat Barcelona. They are the best fencing nation in the world and world number one for a reason.

The team, which also contained, Sophie Troiano, 25, and Natalia Sheppard, 28, were beaten 30-21 by Japan in their final clash of the day.
