A protest has been held in Wellingborough against plans to close thelocal prison.
HMP Wellingborough has been earmarked for closure as part of theGovernment's review of the prison system.
Campaigners say closing the prison would mean the loss of around 600 jobs.
Peter Bone, the Conservative MP for Wellingborough, joined the protest in the town centre this morning. He says HMP Wellingborough is one of the least expensive prisons inthe country and has more modern facilities than many other prisons.
However the Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke has said closing the prisonwould save millions of pounds.
