Two soldiers from our region are among more than a hundred who were honoured at a military ceremony in London.

Captain Mark Cripps from Badby in Northamptonshire got his second Mention in Dispatches, while Sapper Ryan Pavey, who is based in Essex received the Queen's Commendation for bravery.

33 regiment based at Wimbish near Saffron Walden in Essex are bomb disposal experts. Sapper Ryan Pavey was leading a team clearing bombs from a notoriously dangerous route when a civilian minibus hit a roadside bomb just metres away. 18 people were killed, but Sapper Pavey risked his life to save five more, including a young boy.

Captain Mark Cripps was on patrol in Afghanistan with his men, alongside members of the Afghan National Army, when they found themselves in the middle of an ambush. The only way out was to stand and fight.
