Essex schoolgirl who starred in charity's Syria video lands role in Hollywood film

A schoolgirl from Harlow in Essex is the star of a charity video that's had nearly 50 million views online.

Lily Rose Aslandogdu says she's proud to help make a difference to the lives of people in Syria who the advert aimed to support.

Lily's character shows how the life of a young girl gets turned upside down by war.

It was filmed for the charity Save the Children as part of their Save Syria's Children appeal.

"You wouldn't really think that many people would see something that you've done. I would understand if it was a big thing like a movie but just a video for a charity is amazing because you're making such a bigger difference.

I am quite proud of it because it's nice to see the number on the videos go up because that means that the number of the people who are helping goes up as well."

Lily has just finished filming the Hollywood film, 'A Monster Calls', that's set to be released next October.

"It was alongside people like Liam Neeson, Sigourney Weaver and Felicity Jones. It was really exciting because when I first met Sigourney Weaver I didn't go up to her she came up to us all and she put out her hand and said you must be Lily.

I didn't have to introduce myself to her, she knew who I was. To think other celebrities know who I am is amazing.

It's very difficult to be around them and not smile because I was very starstruck and meeting them is like every child's dream really."

Lily wants to become an actress when she leaves school but says, for now, she wants to focus on going into Year 8 and looking ahead to her GCSEs.
