Extraordinary bravery of shop customer tackling armed man captured on CCTV

The moment a brave customer tackled a gunman to the floor has been captured on CCTV. The would-be robber was jailed for 11 years.

Stephen Lawrence, 54, went into Premier Stores in Drayton Road armed with what looked like a sawn off shotgun. The gun proved to be a fake.

Lawrence had confronted shop customer Sharon Baker who fetched her husband Darren. He then tackled Lawrence, brought him to floor and held him until police arrived.

Mr Baker and his wife Sharon were both awarded £300 for their bravery.

Judge Maureen Bacon praised Mr Baker saying he was "a very brave man" who was "outraged" at the ordeal that Lawrence had put his wife through.

Lawrence was sentenced to an extended term of 11 years in prison and five years on licence after previously admitting attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence in December 2015.
