A woman in her 30s has reported being raped as she walked home through a Cambridgeshire town.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the attack which happened at about 8.30pm on Sunday in March.

The victim was walking back from a friend's house through the Wigstones Road area, between Nene Parade and North Drive - known locally as the BMX Park - when she stopped and asked a man for directions.

He took hold of her and raped her.

A group of people walked past and the man ran off across the park. They then called police after the victim told them what had happened.

The attacked is described as white, around 18 years old, and was wearing a black jacket.

"We would like to reassure members of the public that incidents of this nature are particularly rare. We are working with the victim who is being supported by specially trained staff."
