A 7-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a swimming pool at a holiday park on the Norfolk and Suffolk border.

The girl was pulled from the indoor pool at the Waveney River Centre in Burgh St Peter in an 'unresponsive' state at lunchtime on Sunday 1st May.

She was taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston, where she later died at around 4pm (Sunday 1st May).

It's believed the young girl had been at a private pool party at the centre.

Health and safety officers have visited the scene and have told the Waveney River Centre that they are satisfied with their documentation and risk assessment.

The centre has been told it could re-open its pool, but the owners have decided to keep it closed out of respect to the family.

"We are devastated by this tragedy but want to thank the paramedics, our staff and customers who did everything possible to save the girl's life, and the police and local authority officers who have been outstandingly professional during these early stages of their investigation. Out of respect for the girl's family, we will not be re-opening the pool until after this bank holiday weekend and hope that our guests will understand our decision."
