A secondary school in Essex has stopped giving homework to pupils because the headmistress says teachers don't have enough time to mark and prepare lessons.

Catherine Hutley, principal at Philip Morant School and College, in Colchester, claims scrapping after-school work will allow staff to use the time to plan better lessons.

Instead pupils will be able to select the work they do at home.

We are excited by our new Prove It approach which replaces traditional homework. We have had an incredible response from parents and carers, with over 250 parents attending workshops to explore and develop the approach further.
