Wigan Athletic winger Yanic Wildschut has handed in a transfer request amid interest from Norwich City and Derby County, the club have confirmed.

Both the Canaries and Derby have had several bids rejected for the Dutchman who has been one of the Latics' best players this season.

Wigan have so far refused to sell though which has led to the 25-year-old trying to force their hand by asking for a move.

Chairman David Sharpe has released a statement tonight, calling Wildschut's conduct "inappropriate and very disappointing."

We made a significant commitment in signing Yanic this time last year and he has clearly thrived at our club and we feel this action from him now is inappropriate and very disappointing at such a crucial point of the season.

This is not the way to repay the faith we have shown in him. I’ve always had a good relationship with Yanic and I feel he has let the club, his team mates and our supporters down by taking this action.

Yanic is a very important player to us and we do not have a desire to sell our best players.

That said, every player has a value and we will not be put under pressure to sell a player for less than our valuation.

– David Sharpe, Wigan Athletic chairman

Norwich will now have to decide whether to raise their bid in order to get a chance to talk to the player.

The Canaries may be in the market for a left winger ahead of tomorrow's deadline, with Robbie Brady expected to move on.
