New safety measures will be installed on the A47 through Norfolk after a number of fatal crashes in recent years.

The Acle Straight connects Anglia to the East Midlands, with thousands of vehicles using the road each day.

However recent crashes (in 2012, 2015 and 2016) have closed the road and claimed lives resulting in calls to make the road safer.

Highways England have now announced a trio of measures that will be installed on the trunk road later this month.

They are;

  • · Improving traffic signs, road markings and kerb alignment at theA47 and A1064 roundabout;

  • · Improving warning signs, road markings, and hazard posts at farm accesses around Wherryman’s Way, and;

  • · Improving advance direction and warning signs at the Halvergate junction.

The works are due to begin on Monday, February 13, and come ahead of consultations into major upgrades elsewhere on the A47 that will start in the spring.
