A woman who used her stiletto heel to attack another woman in an Essex nightclub has been spared jail.

24-year-old Natalie Jeffery admitted unlawfully wounding Sophie Robertsby striking her in the face during a night out at the Unit 7 nightclub in Basildon last September.

Ms Roberts was buying a bottle of water as she prepared to leave the club when was attacked.

The court heard that blood starting streaming down her face and she didn't recover sight in her left eye until several days after the incident.

As soon as she (Ms Roberts) stepped back she was struck three times to her left eye by someone outside her vision.

Jeffery, who works at a pizza delivery business, was sentenced to a 14-month suspended prison term at Basildon Crown Court on Tuesday, with the term suspended for 18 months, and was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

She was also banned from nightclubs for nine months and ordered to pay more than £1,000 to her victim in compensation.

James Lachkovic, mitigating, said Jeffery had acted as a "peacemaker" in an altercation earlier in the night and had taken her shoes off to hold them.

He claimed Jeffery only swung her shoes as "a reaction to having her glasses knocked off" by somebody else.
