Police are working to find out if the crimes are linked Credit: ITV Anglia

Police are hunting armed burglars who broke into two homes in Essex last night.

Three men in masks armed with hammers and screwdrivers broke into two homes in the Braintree area on the evening of Friday November 10.

The first incident happened in the Clarks Wood Drive area of Braintree at around 7.30pm. Jewellery and a phone were stolen by three men with hammers.

The second burglary happened half an hour later in Howbridge Road in Witham. This time the men were armed with screwdrivers and took a handbag and jewellery.

Police say they were frightening incidents for the homeowners. They're trying to work out if the crimes are linked.

“We are investigating whether they are linked due to how they were carried out, the time frame in which they took place, and the distance between two the properties. “I need anyone who may has seen what happened or has any information about either incident to contact Braintree CID. “No-one should face this kind of incident, let alone in their own home, and it is really important we find those responsible.”

– Detective Inspector Kev Hughes
