A Cambridge nurse and Unison Steward has spoken out about the increasing pressure facing the NHS this winter.

Stuart Tuckwood, who is also the Green Party's MP candidate for Cambridge, believes the focus should be on patient care and frontline services rather than private investors.

The Department of Health and Social Care say the Government supported the NHS this winter with an additional £437million of funding as well as the £2.8bn allocated over the next two years in the recent Budget. However Mr Tuckwood told ITV News Anglia that the investment is not always going in the right places.

They can throw all the big numbers they want out there but anyone working in the NHS will tell you that is really is struggling. Huge amounts of money are going to the wrong places such as on PFI contracts to private providers so we need to make sure the investment going into the NHS and into the community is going to be spent on patient care and on investment in front line services... patient being looked after in the NHS will not be able to be looked after safely unless investment in the NHS is sorted out.."
