A learner driver who confused the brake and accelerator pedals and hit a young boy in Saffron Walden, Essex has been jailed for 16 months.

Eleanor Cass, from Hertford, was being supervised when she stopped at a T-junction at Gabriel Street on March 15 last year.

When the car ahead moved on she started to pull away. As she did the six-year-old began to cross the road.

As he did she pressed the accelerator instead of the bake hitting the victim and then a house.

The victim was left with life-changing head injuries.

The 26-year-old admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving Chelmsford Crown Court on April 18 and was jailed yesterday (Wednesday 23).
