First new Northampton shoe factory in decades to open

It has been decades since a shoe factory opened in Northampton, but today Foster & Son hope to bring a bit of glamour to the town.

The brand, known for its handcrafted shoes, are hoping to go global when they start producing products for the ready-to-wear market.

During their 178-year history, they've counted Winston Churchill, Steve McQueen and Fred Astaire among their customers.

"We are aiming to produce the finest shoes to come out of Northamptonshire "There will be a lot of hand detail. Though it's machine-made, they will still feature a lot of artisan craftsmanship that has been developed over Foster and Son's 178-year history."
