Shop owners in Kettering say they are having to make cutbacks because of roadworks in the area.

The works are to make Eskdaill Street two-way for traffic and are due to be completed in December.

But businesses in the town say customers have difficulties getting to their stores and some have had to cut staff because of the fall in trade.

"We're having to work all the hours god sends just to pay the bills. We are absolutely drained. We are down to our last pennies."

– Kamal Paul, Paul's Stop and Shop

Kettering Borough Council say the work will provide greater access to the town centre and improve traffic flow and help support future growth in the town.

"We are working closely with Kettering Borough Council to make Eskdaill Street in Kettering two way for traffic. This will provide greater access to the town centre and improve traffic flow and help support future growth in the town. Works are scheduled to be completed in early December."
