A teenager from Lincolnshire is on track to make his dreams of becoming a full-time professional historic racing driver a reality.

Ed Thurston from Stamford has shunned the more modern cars in favour of an old British classic, made in Essex, the Merlyn.

To me I see them as more of a challenge, you've got a proper gearbox and usually a h pattern instead of a flappy paddle, so it a really makes a driver work you haven't got any traction control or abs or that kind of thing so you are at one with the car without any electronics.

He's been racing since he was 9, when he took up karting and got his first historic car when he was 13. From there he was hooked.

He's already a proven winner. Most recently storming to victory in a historic car meet at Silverstone.
