When John Drennan from Cambridgeshire got down on one knee amid the bright lights of wintry New York, he thought he'd pulled off the perfect proposal.
Unfortunately, even though his bride-to-be Daniella said yes, the plan went down the drain... literally.
Just four hours after popping the question, the ring slipped off Daniella's finger and fell down a grate in Times Square.
It prompted the NYPD to stage an unusual rescue mission - and then launch a Twitter appeal to find the happy, if a bit clumsy, couple.
The appeal was shared by thousands of people on Twitter - and now the police will reunite the couple with their ring.
A relieved Mr Drennan said he had "so much love for NYC".
