Members of the Unite union employed by Sasse as cleaners will walk out for a week from today after they voted in favour of industrial action.

Workers employed by Clece Care Services as passenger assistants, were also due to strike - but an Airport spokesman says they have now suspended the action. The Unite Union says the strike has been postponed while workers consider a new offer from their employer.

Both disputes were over pay, with Unite campaigning for a rate in line with the voluntary "real" living wage of £9 an hour.

These are the worst paid and worst treated workers at the airport but they are fighting back. Their treatment by both their employer and the airport is plain wrong but the staff have shown resilience and determination. With healthy profits and growing passenger numbers, Luton and its contractors have no excuse for paying workers below the real living wage.
