Greater Anglia are warning vehicle drivers in Norfolk to be extra careful at level crossings over the next fortnight as they prepare to take their new trains on test runs.

Two trains will travel between Diss and Norwich and Norwich and Great Yarmouth on various nights over the next couple of weeks between midnight and 5am.

Greater Anglia say that the tests will take place in the early hours in order to prevent any clash with normal services.

The company is investing £1.4bn in an entire new fleet of 169 trains which should all be on the network by 2020.

“It’s very exciting to have some of our new trains on our network now, but we are warning motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in Norfolk to watch out for level crossings in use at times when they’re not used to trains being in service," Ian McConnell, Greater Anglia Franchising and Programmes Director said.

“There are a number of safety, performance and familiarisation tests we need to complete on our new trains before they come into service later this year.”
